In a highly competitive environment where a few kilograms of weight saved can lead to glory on the racetrack, analysis can make all the difference.
In this study a racecar rear wing was developed using a combination of computational fluid dynamics (CFD) and state of the art finite element analysis (FEA) techniques.
The were multiple objectives for this project - make the wing as light as possible, minimise drag for the prescribed downforce and make sure that the wing was strong enough to withstand up to 3/4 a tonne of downforce whilst cornering.
